Spring is Coming…

Or at least we hope so! We need the rain, we love the rain, but please let it stop for awhile! Today was a glimmer of hope for a little sunshine and warm air was with us! As part of this month’s card Kindred Stamps Fan Club challenge, I decided to use their set Trim the Hedges to showcase my rendition of April is coming. I can see the light so to speak.

I wanted to do a non-traditional size card to express the scene. My card size ended up being 4″x9″ and fits in a regular letter mailing size envelope. I used Canson watercolor paper because I knew I wanted to work with the Distress markers, Ink and Nuvo shimmer powder. Below is a series of photos showing the steps I used. I drew on color with the markers and sprayed water on the paper. Then I took a paint brush and spread the color. Using the Shimmer Powder lightly, and ever so lightly cause a little goes a long way, tap some powder onto the card. Again, spray with water and blend until you get the look you want. Then, using a Tim Holtz tree stencil, I stenciled on a few trees with the Peeled Paint Distress Ink. I colored my Kindred images using copic markers. I wanted to show the light of spring coming through. I thought it would be fun to make the main character slide across toward the light end as well. To do this I used a slider channel from My Favorite Things and used their plastic tic tac to secure into the channel. And Wah-lah! I just love how it turned out!

Tell me your favorite part of this card! I’d love to hear what you see…
